Not sure why there is a discrepancy because they serve the same menu from Taste and probably from the same kitchen. The food is the heart of our travels, and sadly, I do not have much to report under this section of the Norwegian Epic review. Perhaps it’s partially my fault for not purchasing a specialty dining package and not eating at their finer dining establishments.

I'm a global nomad at heart, and the dedicated editor behind CruiseGear. For the past two decades, I've experienced exciting voyages across the world, discovering countless ports from the decks of dozens of ships, visiting 40+ countries (and living in some of them for years). I want to share everything I've learned and hope to make your next cruise vacation as enjoyable as possible. We think the Norwegian Epic is a great option for first time cruisers. The sheer size of the cruise ship makes it feel like a large hotel and a bit less of a typical cruise ship.
ALL CRUISE LINES (1543 SHIPS)
Know, that all forward-facing balconies on each of the decks are with an in-hull design. Mini-Suites have 2 twin beds (convertible to queen), and also feature curved walls. Family suites (categories M2, M3 and M4) have 1 upper berth plus single sofa bed. Spa suites (category M9) feature dome ceiling, individually controlled colored lighting, bathtub. The highest grades NCL Epic accommodations are The Haven suites. Guest in those suites can enjoy exclusive access to the ship’s Courtyard (relaxation complex) with its own swimming pool and whirlpool, sundeck (sunbathing area) and a private fitness center.
Included with your cruise fare:
Experience the legendary Liverpool venue where the Beatles performed, The Cavern Club. Starlink provides fast Internet service at sea and is now available on Norwegian Epic. Using advanced low earth orbit satellites, SpaceX’s Starlink delivers industry leading broadband internet connectivity, which will improve the capacity, speed, and reliability of Internet on board. In passenger hallways, the carpet is made of swimming fish! Since the ship is so large, it’s easy to get lost or turned backward, so use the fish to guide you.

With 20+ years of coordinating logistics and travel planning, I've taken that expertise to plan our cruise, food, and travel experiences. We like to shop around before booking by going directly to the cruise line and checking out the deals on GoToSea, CruiseDirect.com, Costco Travel, and Cruise Compete. Ultimately, the best advice is to find a travel agent you can trust to help you book a cruise. You are probably reading this Norwegian Epic review in preparation for your upcoming Epic cruise… don’t fret. Just take the knowledge I provided and use it to your advantage. You will have a completely different experience than we did.
While some ships simply can’t deliver when it comes to good eats and plenty of them, that’s not the case here. The next year, the ship was featured on the show Mighty Ships, a Discovery Channel series that follows the routes, passengers and crews of cruise ships around the world. Unfortunately for Norwegian Cruise Line, Norwegian Epic has been far surpassed by plenty of other cruise ships by now. Currently, Norwegian Epic is the 21st-largest ship in the world. The current third-largest is Oasis of the Seas from Royal Caribbean, which boasts a maximum occupancy of 6,780 passengers and a gross tonnage of 226,838 GT. A refurbishment in 2020 transformed The Haven into a modern and bright area.
Norwegian Epic Staterooms
As always, our favorite crew members were the washy-washy folk. Thank you for always being cheery and brightening my day before we even had our coffee. We decided the itinerary was enough for us, and we’d judge the ship later. In the past, we read many mixed reviews on certain ships due to the variety of personalities and expectations and found it was far from what we ended up experiencing.

They’ve become so popular that all future ships built for Norwegian Cruise Line have included solo cabins. Of all NCL Epic cabins, 75 are located in the signature all-suite complex “The Haven”. The Epic cruise ship has the world's largest number of Studio rooms (single-occupancy cabins for solo travelers) available for booking – a total of 128 studios. The ship is also unique with the lack of any Oceanview cabins (outside staterooms with Picture Window or Porthole Window).

The cabins on the Norwegian Epic are where most passengers have a strong opinion. The layout is unusual by cruise ship standards with a split bathroom (the toilet is separate from the shower) and where the sink is in the room. With only a curtain divider, people often feel that privacy is lacking. The design is very “European” by nature, which is why it’s not well received by the customer base in America. While the design of the bathroom is polarizing when it comes to opinions, the overall room design is quite good, albeit funky with rounded elements throughout.
Dinners and shows should be booked ahead of sailing or you may find yourself on the outside looking in. Lines are common, and much of the onboard experience, particularly dining, costs extra. As the very first Norwegian ship to debut The Haven in 2010, Norwegian Epic is once again making waves in redefining this luxurious enclave. In November 2020, The Haven on Norwegian Epic underwent extensive renovations. From reimagined Suites to redesigned experiences including The Haven Restaurant and The Haven Courtyard Pool & Sundeck, you can soak in true luxury at sea. The food quality is usually very good, a notable feature of NCL.
Again, however, on a recent cruise, there were more misses than normal, especially in specialty dining. I believe this is temporary due to all of the supply chain issues. After a planned Transatlantic in December 2022 on the Epic, I’ll confirm if the dining has improved. The Epic cruise ship has more than enough to keep passengers from getting restless during their vacation. Dead center of the atrium and great for people watching. Unfortunately, NCL made the choice to chop off a significant portion of the bar and make it a Starbucks.
Of course you'll have access to all kinds of great amenities, like 24-hour room service and much more. The ship offers two separate main pools (with four hot tubs), a kiddy pool area and a pool for suite guests. Spa cabins include admission to Mandara spa and use of the thermal suite area.
Solo passengers/cruisers have never been a priority on most cruise ships. Expensive solo and single supplements are often normal on cruises, however, Norweigian changed that with their solo insider cabins of which more than 100 were introduced on the Epic. The choice to cater to passengers who traveled alone or with friends not wanting to share a cabin was a huge hit for NCL.
Epic is the first cruise ship ever to have (and so many of them) "studios". All solo cruise cabins are bookable with single occupancy rates. NCL Norwegian pioneered the freestyle dining concept (eat whenever, with whomever and wherever you want). Expect to pay extra for the speciality restaurants, though there are plenty of spots included in the cruise fare. Most mega-ships feature a massive dining hall with big tables, but Epic goes another route. Closest to the standard here is the 592-seat Manhattan Room, with its two-story windows and a polished dance floor.
